Bem-vindo, bem-vindas e bem-vindes à Sala 54, a plataforma de streaming das mostras de filmes do instituto Nicho 54. Um dos pilares do instituto, a curadoria é o espaço onde gostamos de disputar o imaginário, revisar hierarquias da história do cinema, propor outras representações das vivências pretas, abraçar o contraditório e promover conversas entre os sujeitos negros.

A Sala 54 surge como alternativa à impossibilidade de nos reunirmos pessoalmente numa sala de cinema para compartilhar filmes pretos da forma que fizemos no lançamento do Nicho Novembro, em 2019, na sala de cinema do então Jardin do Centro. Aqui na nossa plataforma de streaming você terá acesso às mostras de filmes do nosso Eixo Curadoria, que são gratuitas e disponíveis a todas as pessoas.

Welcome everyone to Sala 54, Nicho 54’s streaming platform where we host the institute’s film series and retrospectives. Curatorship is one of three pillars on which our institute stands. We understand it as a space where one can reshape the collective imaginary and reorder the hierarchies that structure what society sees as film history. Through curatorship, we hope to offer to our audiences different representations of the Black experience throughout the world, embrace contradiction and perhaps even painful discussions, as well as sponsor conversations between Black people.

We envision Sala 54 as an alternative to the impediments of being physically together inside a movie theater due to a global pandemic. We certainly the warmth from Nicho Novembro’s first edition, held in 2019 at what once was Jardin do Centro’s film room. Here at the streaming platform you will have access to every film series we run. It is a free-to-all project, so enjoy!
